Modern Relics is now on Ghost!

Hello and welcome to Modern Relics, the newsletter about religion, pop culture and the internet -- now at its new home on Ghost.

Just in case you haven't read my thoughts about it in my previous editions, I've make the decision to move away from Substack. I was unimpressed with the company's response to the Nazi content moderation controversy, and figured that considering this is a newsletter about religion, I should probably not be on a platform actively willing to monetise antisemitism and Islamophobia.

I have ported over all your email addresses, so there's no need to sign up again. Also, I figured in for a penny in for a pound: I'll treat myself and get an actual URL for this site. It's nearly three years old! It's time!

(The .com address was far too expensive. Oh well.)

Quite a few things have broken in the transfer to the new platform, so I'm doing a bit of fixing as I go. Also the design of the site isn't final. Ghost is far more customisable than Substack was, so I'll be fiddling with that for a long time to come I'm sure.

Moving away from Substack's "network effect" recommendation system makes reader support even more important. If you know someone who is interested in digital religion, unusual memes or even just culture in general, I'd really appreciate it if you would share Modern Relics with them. This might be a silly little side project, but I'm proud of what I've achieved here and I'd love for this newsletter to keep growing.
