Pride is not a sin this month

Also, Andrew Garfield has a knack for playing Christians

I was chatting with a friend on the weekend who said he likes to read this newsletter but often has no idea what I’m talking about. And you know what? Fair. It’s always a bit of a balancing act to explain enough without overexplaining and ruining the joke.

Remember that if you are ever lost, you are more than welcome to email me and ask what is going on, or you can even leave a comment. It’s quite good if you do, because then I get a little email and that makes me feel nice. Also I assume it makes Substack pay attention to me somehow.

It’s Pride Month

Here in Australia we don’t go for Pride Month in a big way. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras was originally a protest march to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York, but it got rescheduled to March because it’s too bloody cold down here to dance in the street in just a glittery jockstrap in June. March also happens to be closer to the actual Christian festival of Mardi Gras — make of that what you will.

It means March is kind of Australian Pride Month now? But that didn’t stop some quality religion Pride Month content from hitting my feed this week, including that Marsha P Johnson (prominent figure in the Stonewall riot) was profoundly religious.

If you need an explainer for the tweet above, I wrote one back when it first went viral. I hope these good Christian men are doing well and I wish them Happy Pride. Also just a reminder that:

It was also Pentecost last weekend

Should I post a playlist/lofi mix every week?

Click to get the playlist

This edition was written largely to the sounds of this unofficial Young Pope/New Pope soundtrack playlist. I’ve been listening to this a lot because I watched a lot of Young Pope when my fiancé and I first got together (I really am that predictable lol).

Forgive me, I’m just venting

This post got cut from the last couple of editions for space, and I’ve only now checked the comments underneath it. Lots of “Inshallah the imposter will be found” but there’s also this:

We Morbed so hard and got all the way to America

Context, kinda. Also, there’s one or two people jokingly goading Christian streaming service Pure Flix into licensing a Christian Morbius sequel lmao.

Andrew Garfield has a knack for playing Christians

via @TylerHuckabee

Sorry to keep posting stuff from Tyler Huckabee but he and I have converging interests. Anyway, Andrew Garfield has played four different kinds of Christian having a crisis of faith for whatever reason. User @egeofanatolia put it in tweet form first but left out Andrew’s role in Hacksaw Ridge, where he plays a Seventh-day Adventist.

Tyler Huckabee also says, “the haters and losers accusing me of stealing this post …i was on this beat last year.” And it’s true, he was.

Also, in 2012 a very giggly teenage girl told me I looked like Andrew Garfield, so maybe he will play me in a movie one day.
